Day 12: Rabé de las Calzadas to Castrojeriz

Wet start this morning—cover on the backpack and hood up. It was only light rain, so no complaints, and it came and went for about three hours.

We stayed well clear of main roads all day, walking across a vast plateau with no real mountains in sight. Pylons and wind farms dotted the landscape, surrounded by wide fields of crops. Then, suddenly, we’d drop off the plateau into valleys.

At around the 17km mark, I descended into a small village, Hontanas, and stopped for lunch. From there, it was a gradual descent through a valley into Castrojeriz, my home for the night.

It’s a very pretty town, with some striking buildings.

Tonight’s accommodation is an albergue with all single beds in a large dorm. It’s only 14:00 and the guy behind me is already snoring—OMG, what fun!

As next weekend is a holiday, I’ve booked all my accommodation through to Tuesday.

Tomorrow I’m off to Villarmentero de Campos, 33.8 km.

It’s fault flat apart from an initial bump. More rain is forecast!
